‘Blue Flag’ means the best beaches and the best spots

‘Blue Flag’ means the best beaches and the best spots. Everyone in Italy knows that Tuscany has got a wonderful coast that offers different landscapes, from sand to rocks, pinewoods and wild nature.

Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Pietrasanta, Viareggio, Cecina, Follonica, Castiglione della Pescaia and the unique promontory of Argentario.

These are also the places that have gained ‘Bandiera Blu‘ (Blue Flag), a prize that certify the highest quality and stays of beaches, with clean waters and preserved skyline.

Blue flags are allocated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee) in Italy that evaluates many important parameters as the quality of water, the coast and also for the presence of services, security measures and initiatives takenin otder to protect the environment.

Starting from Versilia, a land that combines mountains and sea, wine hills and art cities. Forte Dei Marmi is a small town once devoted to the finest white marble trades. Now it hosts a very highly placed tourism, as it offers luxury boutiques, famous restaurants, hystoric villas, Vips, relax and every kind of amenities during the summer.

Viareggio
is known for being one of the first cities in the world where seaside tourism was born. At the time of the Duchy of Lucca (Ducato di Lucca) the great beaches of Viareggio hosted the first wooden Baths, fantastic art nouveau buildings where people bathed clothed.

Today, what is called the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, is offering bathing facilities at the highest level, clean and safe sea, a rich cultural program, many miles of public beach immersed in a Natural Park.

Furthermore Marina di Bibbona, in the province of Livorno, with its dense pine forest that stretches on the beach, it’s ideal for walking or cycling. It attracts italian politicians. But all the zone that is called Coast of the Etruscans (Costa degli Etruschi) is well-preserved and worth a visit.

Blue Flags are given to those municipalities who are not hosting high industries and have taken special measures – such as water depurators – to clean up black waters.

Well, we’ll continue next days speaking about those other fantastic spots…
