Visit Chianti in Tuscany

Visit Chianti in Tuscany. Valdarno superiore and Chianti, the territory of vineyards and hill towns that stretches between Florence and Siena. If you are staying at either Florence or Siena on a city breaks getaway, then this region is easy to explore by car.

Leaving the motorway of Sole at the Firenze Sud exit, you will arrive at Incisa. Driving south you come across Figline Valdarno. Here it is necessary to select whether to go left towards the passo della Consuma, or right towards Chianti. In the vicinity make a stop at Rufina, the patriarch of Chianti Putto and the ceramics of Ginori. If at Figline you decided to go left, you will plunge into the fabulous hills of Chianti Fiorentino.

The first stop is Lamole, where you will see the grand Vignamaggio Villa, where the celebrated Mona Lisa of the famous Leonardo di Vinci painting was born. A few kilometres from Lamole is the most important zone of Greve in Chianti, the capital of the Chianti Classico Gallo Nero for the grand exhibition-market of Chianti wine which it hosts every year.

Nearby Greve, precisely in the picturesque village of Montefioralle, a magical and silence place, is the 12th Century Pieve di S. Cresci, a small romantic style treasure outside of the tourist “Classico” route.

Upon returning to Florence you could stop at Impruneta an agricultural centre, famous for its terracotta and only 13kms from the city.
